Lionsgate/Summit to Revive 'Twilight Saga' with Reboot or Sequels?

The Twilight Saga

The first iteration of this franchise isn't even over yet, but here's some news that could set fans' hearts aflutter and have haters storming the studio gates. Lionsgate/Summit are reportedly already planning a remake of Twilight. Bloody Disgusting released the news, which was quickly denied by the studio (via Deadline), who said in a statement that "this [upcoming film] will be the last one unless that should change." So it's not a flat-out denial, but more of an ambiguous statement to cover themselves when they conveniently change their minds in a couple years. Because let's face it, this is going to happen eventually.

Bloody Disgusting's report says that internal discussions have already begun at Lionsgate/Summit to develop a sequel, spin-off, or remake of the Twilight Saga, and frankly, I'd actually be more surprised if they weren't having those talks among themselves right now. Love it or hate it, Twilight put Summit on the map and was a huge part of why Lionsgate acquired the studio a little while back, so it makes total sense that the execs would want to explore ways to continue pulling in the massive amounts of cash this franchise generates. The studio's denial of the report was likely done out of respect for the ongoing series, because I'm sure these talks weren't supposed to be leaked to the public and with Breaking Dawn - Part Two set to be released in a few months (with a new trailer hitting this Wednesday morning), it looks disingenuous to the fans of this series if the studio is already looking past the big finale and on to a remake.

We all knew this was going to happen, it was just a matter of when. So with rumblings like this, and the studio claiming they "will happily support Stephanie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way," it looks like Edward and Bella could join Peter Parker and Bruce Banner as characters who get rebooted only a few years after their last film hits the big screen. And if not right way, perhaps the studios are just open to adapting more of Meyer's books if she happens to write a spin-off sequel or something of that sort to keep the series alive for tweens around the world.

Wow just wow. Rebooting an already sappy and childish franchise? Sounds sensible to me and next thing they will promise it will be dark and gritty with less romance blah blah blah... What would be funny is that they intertwine it with underworld and blade universe that would lead up to the ultimate badass vampire movie similar to the avengers, lol. I see a pattern here.

The only prob with slapping them into another universe is that part of Twi's lure is that the vamps are all hiding . Put them in Underworld ; what before/right after Selene goes into a coma ? Blade ; maybe , only if they say the Cullens know and are hiding from the crazy excesses of the Blade vampires . the problem with those is that they're too dark for just-a-love-story Twi franchise . I"D actually like to see them be all in a plane flying on a family vacation , hit some kind of storm/nexus/portal( Bermuda Triangle maybe ) and end up in Bon Temps i.e. True Blood . Then they can still have violence , culture shock cause vamps are out , and the love stories ( HBO anybody reading , movie MONEY maker ! ). How'd you like to see Pam schooling Bella? Eric vs Edward ? Sookie blasting any of them with fairy light ? Rosalie vs Jessica/Tara ?? BTW they're making Underworld 5 soon - have to wait a while for a mix with them .. Underworld and Blade together by themselves are enough , when Snipes gets out of jail ...

Altho ; Snipes and Beckinsdale fight , then become friends ???? or one kills the other ? that's not happening . What common cause could they both have ? Just the Lichens . can they explain why would Blade would just be finding out about them ..? ...

Actually, a reboot would make perfect sense. If it's done properly, with a different cast and director, this could work wonders. Fingers cros... oh, who am I kidding!?

It's not that simple, they could be using that money and time to be making better more awesome films which are greatly lacking these days

awesome films don't bring in cash like simplistic story arcs that allow prepubescent teens to imagine themselves as fairytale creatures with muscles and subtle hints of sex.

Money is everything right? Waste money for making more money! Twilight is most hateful and most money maker product in my opinion in decade in same time. Reboot Or Remake! Ridiculous ! Most Bullshit of 2012 for me! Are holleywood empty from original ideas? 5 movie not was enough for this? Really this saga want compete with Bond movies! I say onley Robert Patison & Kristian Stewart are talented young guys and must play memorable different roles either. They must know if they fall in trap of repetitive roles their future cinematic faces maybe fall in danger too. But I'm in love with movies and if they make it I see it perforcely.

Hollywood studios make me sick. I know it's all about money, but do they have any pride left? And you can't reboot a story if the source material is worse than the actual films! Bah. /rant

At least this time around Bella will be played by an actress who can act with emotions. Anyway, it's too early for a remake! I'm surprised no one thought of a Star Wars reboot, even though we really don't need to!
