BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (WFLA/WPTV) – A South Florida woman hid a “kindness rock” in a Palm Beach County park this summer.

Now, months later, the rock has ended up 5,100 miles away in Austria, where people continue to share its message.

Crystal Kramer has been painting kindness rocks for the past year.

The simple arts and crafts hobby has grown to thousands of people joining Facebook groups and sharing rocks they’ve made and ones they’ve found.

“You never know who finds them and if they even have the ability to post them,” said Kramer.

She has hidden dozens of rocks all around Palm Beach County. But one rock she hid on the Apoxee Trail made the journey.

“I never in a million years, you see them sometimes in different states, people say ‘oh I am hiding them on a road trip’ but never in a different country or that far away.”

The first post on Instagram was a few weeks ago, found in Austria.

Then about 200 miles away, another post from Hungary.

“I reached out to the person that had posted and they just loved it, said it was beautiful.  She said it made her day when she found it, and I said, ‘you made my day when you posted it.’”

Kramer says it’s a simple way to make someone smile.

She says the best part is seeing all the different places the rocks will turn up.
