The Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Thursday agreed to settle a lawsuit with former casino mogul Steve Wynn, which will allow the commission to conclude its investigation of Wynn Resorts’ suitability to hold a Massachusetts casino license.

The commission took a brief, unanimous vote following an executive session to authorize their legal counsel to finalize a settlement. Details of the settlement were not immediately available.

“Today the Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted to authorize its legal counsel to finalize an agreement guaranteeing that commissioners have access to important investigative information relevant to the Wynn Resorts suitability review,” the commission said in a statement. “This action also eliminates the uncertainty of protracted litigation and allows the MGC to commence its preparations for an adjudicatory hearing and a robust, public review of its investigatory findings.”

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has been looking into whether Wynn Resorts is still suitable to hold a Massachusetts casino license, in light of reports of sexual misconduct by Wynn. Wynn has since left the company.

The investigation was delayed after Wynn sued the Gaming Commission in a Nevada court.

Wynn said attorney-client privileged documents were given to the commission’s investigative team by Wynn Resorts without his permission.

Settling that lawsuit will enable the commission to receive an investigative report, and move forward with adjudicating Wynn Resorts’ suitability “as soon as possible,” said commission member Gayle Cameron.

The Everett casino, which changed its name from Wynn Boston Harbor to Encore Boston Harbor, is planning to open in June 2019.
