Cops Save Man Who Overdosed, Drove Into Ditch

Police saved a Wood Dale man's life by administering Narcan after he crashed into a ditch on Sunday.

ADDISON, IL — Illinois State Police saved a Wood Dale man's life on Sunday after he crashed into a ditch, police said. Troopers responded to a crash on I-290 westbound near Mill Road on Sept. 23. Preliminary investigation indicates that Peter Klingelhofer, 38, was the driver and only person in his car when he left the roadway and crashed into a ditch.

Illinois State Police said they arrived on scene and located Klingelhofer inside the vehicle slumped over and unresponsive. Troopers were able to gain entry into the vehicle and administered two doses of Narcan to Klingelhofer, before beginning CPR. Officers were able to resuscitate Klingelhofer, who was then take to Elmhurst Hospital.

Klingelhofer was later arrested for DUI and other traffic violations.

"I'm proud of the men and women of our district and all ISP Troopers working throughout our state keeping our roadways safer," Illinois State Police District 2 Captain Michael Kraft said in a release. "My hope is that this crash and arrest reminds motorists that it is never acceptable to drive impaired, placing yourself and all motorists on our roadways in danger."
