Billy Joe Saunders has been the latest professional boxer to have his say on a potential rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor.

Mayweather and McGregor finally came together in a long-anticipated clash in August last year, with boxer Mayweather unsurprisingly triumphing within his own format by technical knockout.

McGregor, however, put in a highly-proficient performance in the ring in Las Vegas and has long since spoken of his desire to make a rematch happen, but in his mixed martial arts division.

Mayweather has recently dampened the speculation of the pair meeting in the Octagon, according to McGregor, who then publicly wished Mayweather all the best in his retirement as a parting shot.

Billy Joe Saunders, the current WBO middleweight champion, has been the latest person to weigh in with his opinion on what would happen if the pair were to meet again under McGregor's rules and has an intriguing take on the encounter, were it to happen.

When asked for his views on the possible fight, Saunders stated: "I'd rather see the Octagon fight than the Mayweather v McGregor first fight which was under boxing rules."

The British boxer then boldly went on to say: "I personally think Mayweather would beat him in the Octagon."

At first glance, his prediction may seem as unlikely to happen as McGregor beating Mayweather at his own skill set, but Saunders thinks an important twist would even up the odds.

"What you might see now are the rules changing and I can't see them being, what, five minute rounds now? They'd probably be three minutes or two minute rounds, something like that."

When asked by the interviewer if he could see "McGregor ending it brutally", Saunders responds: "No, no, I can't see it being a five-minute round...yeah I think the rules will be adapted a bit here and there."

When finally asked whether he would take to the Octagon himself, Saunders again doesn't hold back: "One hundred million percent...I'd love to have a go."

All that remains to be seen is whether a second super-fight really will happen.
