Space Pirate Captain Harlock Joins Japan in Anti-Piracy Campaign

40,000 posters with title character read, “Even space pirates don't forgive pirating!”

The Japan Patent Office and the Agency for Cultural Affairs revealed its collaboration with the live-action film of Leiji Matsumoto's Captain Harlock manga earlier this month.

Approximately 40,000 posters with the film's titular character will be posted at public facilities, colleges, junior colleges, and high schools. The catchphrase on the posters read, “Even space pirates don't forgive pirating!" The posters also asks citizens to not purchase pirated or imitation goods.

The film remakes the classic anime Space Pirate Captain Harlock with Toei Animation's highest production budget ever at the equivalent of more than 30 million U.S. dollars. Shun Oguri and Haruma Miura star as the title pirate and the new character Yama, respectively.

The film will open in Japan on September 7, and the London-based film sales company GFM Films has listed that it is working on an international dub.
