Now, students of government high schools here can learn spoken English, courtesy an online course.

Launched recently by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, the course uses daily life scenarios, regional and cultural examples, situation-based learning and an innovative teaching method of grammatical concepts. Local Administration Minister N.G. Pannirselvam was also present at the launch.

“Our academy wants to improve the student’s spoken English skills by giving them a concrete chance to learn and practice English the way it is spoken in everyday life and in the professional environment,” said Terry Leger, Founder and CEO of Azimuth, the company which has developed the course material. The e-course retail pack is available in CD and DVD format, with three levels.

“Today, we have taken an initiative to distribute free copies to the Pondicherry Government High Schools. I hope, we will be able to expand this initiative in future by gathering donations to finance more free copies for the schools that need help,” Mr. Leger added.
