According to police, Pye said he returned to the accident scene after hitting Burdeshaw with his 1996 Toyota Avalon. When he saw that Burdeshaw was critically injured, however, he didn’t call for medical help or report the accident to police.

Pye's car was later located by police and towed when the damage to the car was consistent with evidence found at the scene of the hit-and-run crash. The police have recovered forensic evidence from the car as well.
