Hartselle native named director of Marshall Space Flight Center
Hartselle native Jody Sandlin Singer was officially named director of the Marshall Space Flight Center Sept. 13. Singer is the first woman, as well as the first person from north Alabama, to lead Marshall.
Singer said she was informed of the decision by video conference call. She said it is difficult to express the excitement she felt. “I remember feeling joy and excitement and being proud. I am really looking forward to executing our mission and working to take care of our people,” Singer said.
The Hartselle native said she is thankful for her education and journey that started in Hartselle. “I am wearing the flag for Hartselle,” she said.
As the first woman to lead Marshall Space Flight Center, Singer said her background and the support of her team has helped her. “I feel very honored. When I think about being the first, there have been things that have helped prepare me. Being selected to lead such a tremendous team is a great honor,” Singer said.
Singer said her primary goal as director is to lead the center through the mission of deep space exploration. “This is a pivotal time as we write the next chapter of space flight,” Singer said.
