LAS VEGAS – Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber is a massive favorite over Alex Caceres at this weekend’s UFC 175 event, but “The California Kid” said he never concerned himself with how little he stands to gain with a win.

For Faber, a fight is a fight, and the 35-year-old said he’s used to being in contests where his opponent seems to enjoy more of an upside with a victory.

“My whole last year was filled with that,” Faber told MMAjunkie. “Iuri Alcantara, Ivan Menjivar, (Michael) McDonald, Scottie Jorgensen. When you’re in a position I’m in – I’ve been in the sport a long time and been a world champion – that’s just the reality of it. You’r either scared to play or not scared to play. I’m not scare of anything.”

Faber (30-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and fellow bantamweight Caceres (10-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) meet in the featured prelim of this weekend’s UFC 175 event from Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center. The bout airs on FOX Sports 1 directly preceding the night’s pay-per-view main card.

Oddsmakers have installed Faber as a 12-to-1 favorite, and while Caceres brings an official four-fight winning streak into the contest (and five fights if you don’t count a result overturned after testing positive for marijuana), his reputation in the sport pales in comparison to that of his opponent.

Still, Faber believes it’s imperative to take every opponent seriously – and that Caceres may surprise with his abilities.

“I think he’s a guy that has dangerous weapons,” Faber said. “He’s not afraid to try. A lot of people count themselves out before they even start. He’s the type of guy that goes in with offense. He lands big punches. He does submissions. He’ll move all-around. In my opinion, those are the most dangerous guys to fight: guys that are really there to fight.”
