Kerala to set up 11 modern abattoirs

Local Self Government Department will be the implementing agency.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government will install 11 state-of-the-art abattoirs in the state using the KIIFB funds. Though there are over 10,000 abattoirs in the state, none has modern facilities. The proposed Rs 116-crore project will be first implemented in six corporations in the state. A high-level meeting was convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Tuesday to review the abattoir project.

The Local Self Government Department will be the implementing agency for the project. Since the KIIFB do not provide funds to the Department, a special purpose vehicle have been formed for the purpose. The project will get Rs 100 crore within 45 days, LSG special secretary V. K. Baby said.
