Chagrin Falls native Lee Unkrich returns home after second Oscar win

Unkrich's film Coco recently won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature

Oscar has come home to Chagrin Falls.

Lee Unkrich is back in Northeast Ohio, bringing with him the Academy Award he just won for Coco, this year's Best Animated Feature.

The movie was his idea, and he directed it.

Unkrich told us that a second Oscar is the highest honor he could hope to win.

"It's very special," Unkrich says. "It's been a long time since I've lived here, but it feels like yesterday as well. I know that everyone is proud of having someone from Chagrin go off and be successful. I'm happy to come back, talk to kids, and help motivate them."

Unkrich won his first Academy Award for Toy Story 3 in 2011. His other films are pretty popular on the family front. Unkrich co-directed Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and all three Toy Story films.
