BEMIDJI-A Williston man who sought sex with an underage girl in Bemidji received no additional jail time when he appeared in court April 18.

Alexander Jin Brown, 29, pleaded guilty in January to one count of engaging in electronic communication relating or describing sexual conduct with a child. During his April 18 sentencing, Brown received a stayed 15-month prison sentence. This means he will not have to spend time in prison if he successfully completes a three-year period of probation.

Brown also was sentenced to six days in the Beltrami County Jail, but received credit for the six days he spent incarcerated after his arrest in December.

According to a criminal complaint, Brown came to the attention of law enforcement after he responded to a Craigslist ad posted by a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent pretending to be a 14-year-old girl.

Brown began texting with the agent, then sent the agent-who continued to post as a child-two photos of his face. The pair agreed to meet in Bemidji, where Brown was arrested.

During Brown's three-year period of probation he may not have unsupervised contact with girls younger than 18, cannot use the internet without approval and may not possess any pornography.
