A Brooklyn man charged with trying to provide material support to ISIS pleaded guilty in federal court Friday.
Mohamed Rafik Naji said he’d traveled overseas with the intent of connecting with the bloody terrorist group — and had encouraged another friend to come along.
“I went to Yemen to join ISIS,” Naji told Brooklyn Federal Judge Frederic Block.
But Naji, who was born in Yemen and came to the U.S. when he was 7 years old, didn’t succeed in finding the radicals he sought.
“We have trouble getting in the party,” Naji, 38, wrote to an associate during a fifth attempt to reach ISIS, court papers said.
Back in the states, Naji kept nurturing his support of jihad, prosecutors said.
He was arrested in the fall of 2016 and faces up to 20 years.
