WANCHESE, N.C. (WAVY) — The Outer Banks SPCA is treating more than 80 animals they helped rescue from unsafe conditions at a home in Wanchese.
The investigation started after neighbors made animal cruelty complaints in connection to the home on Brinkly Drive. Authorities say conditions “were extremely neglected, noxious and unsafe,” and the animals were seized between April 23 and 24.
The animals include dogs, cats, a horse, goats, along with roosters, hens, turkeys, geese, chickens — and a turtle.
All of the animals are receiving care from the SPCA, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities say charges have yet to be filed.
