An initial recap of the New York Jets game versus the Minnesota Vikings, where the Jets fell short, dropping their record to 3-4.

The New York Jets ended their three game home stand on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately it ended with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Final. 37. 60. 17. 30

This is the progression of a young team, folks. The Jets were not supposed to win this game. With all of the injuries in the defensive backfield, winning this one was going to be a very tough task.

However, the Jets did have chances in this game. The defense kept them in the game until late when it got out of hand. Once the Vikings opened up a lead the Jets couldn’t get it back in their favor.

One of their best chances came in the third quarter. Andre Roberts posted a 53 yard kickoff return, setting the Jets up at the Vikings 46.

Unfortunately, the Jets were only able to manage one first down and the drive ended in a 55 yard field goal by Jason Myers.

Had that drive resulted in a touchdown, the momentum of the game could have turned very differently.

Let’s look at the first half for a second. The game was close, with the Vikings holding onto a 10-7 lead.

After that field goal by Dan Bailey that put the Vikings ahead, the Jets had four more first half possessions.

Those three possessions resulted in three punts and a lost fumble. If the Jets had added a score in the first half and they had been either tied or ahead going into halftime, the game would have had a very different feel to it.

The Jets defense held on as long as it could before the game got out of reach. Darryl Roberts played well for a good portion of the game, but he was thrown into a very tough spot covering Adam Thielen.

Chris Herndon was a bright spot. He caught four passes for 42 yards and one touchdown, and nearly had one more. He is rapidly becoming the offensive weapon they hoped he would when they selected him in the third round.

Fans, don’t get too down here. The Jets going 2-1 on the home stand is not a bad result. Nobody had the Jets winning this one.

Time to prep for Chicago.
