Last week, Moss Point teacher Jovan Bradshaw posted a photo to Facebook that went viral. Now she's using that momentum in hopes of raising money to teach her students more about Black History Month.

On the doorway to her classroom at Magnolia Middle School, Bradshaw created a colorful display declaring, in part, "They didn't steal slaves."

A Moss Point teacher's door honoring Black History Month went viral. Now, she's asking for donations via GoFundMe to help educate her students about Black History Month.

"Dear students," the door read. "They didn't steal slaves. They stole scientists, doctors, architects, teachers, entrepreneurs, astronomers, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, etc, and made them slaves. Sincerely, your ancestors."

The post garnered 16,000 likes and has been shared over 105,000 times. It quickly caught national attention and was recently featured on the Today Show.

Wednesday, Bradshaw created a GoFundMe saying, in part "Being in a Title 1 school is hard because resources are limited." Bradshaw has a goal of $35,000.

"Public schools with poverty rates of at least 40 percent may use Title I funds, along with other federal, state, and local funds, to operate a schoolwide program to upgrade the entire educational program, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

"Our students could be so much more if they just felt good about themselves and where they come from," she wrote. "I want my students this year to be exposed to different experiences. I would like to take them to the Black History Museum in Hattiesburg, MS and other places to spark their interests."
