SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, IL (KTVI) – Officials at Scott Air Force Base unveiled a new tool that’ll help protect troops and medical staff combat the spread of deadly diseases.

The transportation isolation system (TIS) is the military’s newest weapon in fighting the spread of diseases like Ebola by allowing several infected patients to be transported by air in safe conditions.

“It’s really made to protect everyone on the outside from anybody who may have an infectious disease on the inside,” said Air Force Major Christopher Gonzales, TIS team.

Each compartment is engineered to keep contaminants inside, allowing properly protected medical staff to treat infected patients midflight without contaminating the aircraft.

The sturdy system can handle turbulence and long flights, making it key tool in the military’s efforts in dealing with deadly diseases.

The TIS was developed by Production Products, a St. Louis-based company.

“Our military, they are on the job and when things happen and here’s the start of a unit that can bring people back safely,” said Barry Corona, president of Production Products.

Production Products was awarded a $6 million contract late last year to build 25 TIS units for the military.
