It is the second day of the Northern Wisconsin State Fair.

Thursday’s activities include a performance by country music singer Chris Lane. Also, at the fair on Thursday are the pig, duck and goat races; a live sheep shearing demonstration; and more.

The fair runs from now through Saturday in Chippewa Falls.

Thursday is day two at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, and an area organization is reaching out to local veterans.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 5, out of Eau Claire, has a booth setup on the grounds to greet families and veterans.

They’re handing out information about the Highground, the VA, and the Purple Heart.

The president says they currently have 144 members and support area organizations. Last year, they raised $6,000 for the Eau Claire County DAV Shuttle Van. It helps sends veterans to and from Minnesota for medical services.

"There's a lot of people and get to meet a lot of veterans. We are glad to talk to any veterans to say hi and if they want to chat, we are good at chatting,” said President Mike Korger.

You can stop out to the fair to say hi and kids will also receive a flag. The organization plans to hold a raffle is September 8, at post VFW Post 72 in Eau Claire.


Fair Traffic Alert

Chippewa Falls Police are letting the public know of a traffic alert near the fairgrounds this year.

New for the fair this year, Edward Street from Highway124/Jefferson Ave to Prentice Street will be one way from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Also, there will be free parking and shuttle service located at Chippewa Area Youth Hockey Arena (839 1st Avenue) and Mason Companies Parking Lot (just behind the hockey arena) on Wednesday, July 11 - Saturday, July 14 from 4 p.m.-11 p.m.

New to the fair this year is a bike corral, where you can ride your bikes to the fair and save on parking. The bike corral is free. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
