Hurricane Michael barreled over the Panhandle, southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia…missing Pike County, but Troy University is doing its part to help those in need.

The university is accepting donations for those affected in Florida as well as the Dothan community.

Items ranging from water to toiletries are being collected at the Student Government Association office.

The university is working closely with students who were affected by Hurricane Michael by giving them extensions on assignment and allowing them time to spend with their family.

Gus McKenzie, Student Government Association President at Troy University, says "It's important to give because this really affected the Troy community. We have a lot of students from the Panhandle and a lot of students from the Dothan area. A lot of these students were really affected by this, so something to give to your fellow neighbor really says a lot about your character. It's really cool to see the Troy family get together and do this."

Troy University will continue to accept donations for as long as they are needed.
