Volunteer Drivers Needed to Deliver Meals to Homebound Seniors
PLOWS is looking for volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors one morning per week.
PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- The PLOWS Council on Aging is in need of volunteer and substitute drivers to deliver hot, nutritious meals to some hungry elderly neighbors. This valuable service can mean the difference between our older adults being able to remain in their homes or being placed in a nursing home. Older people who are unable to shop or prepare meals for themselves rely on the nutritious hot meals PLOWS provides.
Volunteers commit to drive one morning per week, with routes taking approximately 2-3 hours from start to finish. Deliveries are Monday through Friday in the morning – no weekend or evening commitments required. Volunteer drivers must have their own cars and provide proof of insurance. Drivers will receive a small stipend to offset gas expenses. The prepared meals are packed and ready for pick up at the PLOWS office, 7808 College Drive, 5th floor, Palos Heights.
Retired couples and young people find this to be an exceptionally rewarding experience. Routes are currently available in Palos and Orland Townships. Retired husbands and wives and young people alike find this to be an exceptionally rewarding experience. PLOWS provides support services for elderly persons 60 and older residing in 20 municipalities in Palos, Lemont, Orland and Worth townships. For more information, call 708-361-0219.
