A lot of snow means a lot of work. While many of the main roads throughout the Roanoke valley are clear, many neighborhoods are still buried. But some have decided it can't be all work and no play.

On the quiet street of Kent Martin's Reed Mountain neighborhood, all you'll hear is the sound of hard work.

"I don't know where everybody else is today," said Martin in his front yard, shoveling snow.

Slowly but surely his neighbors emerge, they too with a task at hand.

"It's good exercise that's for sure," Martin said, lobbing a lump of snow. "I'll get my workout today."

All over our hometowns, people are cleaning up and some are doing it with more help than others.

"I have all girls," Martin said, laughing. "No offense!"

On another mountain top, people are taking a break from the work for a little play.

"These ones are kind of specialized for running," said Audra Van Wart atop Mill Mountain in snow shoes. "So I just strapped them onto my trail shoes and went right on up the hill. It's a really great workout."

From the Roanoke Star, she and others came out to catch the stellar view.

"I originally from the north, I'm from Buffalo so I do get a little sentimental when the snow comes falling down and I have to get outside and come see this," she said, looking over the view.

When the snow falls down, neighbors step up - making the season a little brighter.

"Yeah I mean how can you not bond over making a snowman?" Van Wart said. "So yeah all the neighbors come out with their kids and yeah it's just a fun time."
