Scientists say hundreds of birds could lose their habitat because of changes in the weather, so they're looking for the public's help.

The National Audubon Society just launched the Plants for Birds campaign. The goal is for people to grow one million plants in 2018.

John Rowden, the director of community conservation for the National Audubon Society, says instead of being focused on mowing and having a clean yard, people should create a garden instead.

He says native plants give birds a place to live, provide food and help reduce emissions. He says an

makes it easy for people to figure out which plants are native where they live.

"All you need to do is put in your ZIP code and that will take you to a list of plants that are native to your area and the types of birds that they'll support based on the resources those plants provide," Rowden said. "It will connect you with a local Audubon that can help you. So in your area, you have the Green Mountain Audubon Center, which is a great resource."

Scientists say 314 bird species in North America are threatened by changes in the weather.
