Tropical Storm Beryl made landfall in north-east Florida today, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the south-eastern US coast.

The National Hurricane Centre in Miami said last night that Beryl was making landfall along the north-eastern coast of Florida, over Duval and northern St John's counties.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for the entire Georgia coastline, as well as parts of Florida and South Carolina.

Beryl is expected to bring 4-8ins of rain to parts, with some areas getting as much as 12ins.

Forecasters predict the storm surge and tide will cause some coastal flooding in north-eastern Florida, Georgia and southern South Carolina.

The weather system is expected to continue dumping rain over parts of Florida and Georgia before heading north and then out to sea. It is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by early tomorrow, British time.
