The woman struck and killed by a vehicle on Stagecoach Road on Tuesday night has been identified as Lisa Taylor, a Spanish Fort resident in her late 20s or early 30s, according to Capt. Steven Arthur with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.Authorities said that Taylor, her 53-year-old boyfriend Alfred Banks and her son were heading back to their residence off Stagecoach Road after a party Tuesday night, when the couple became engaged in a dispute, and Taylor tried to exit the moving vehicle.
Taylor's 11-year-old son told investigators that he believes his mother was struck by the vehicle Banks was driving, a statement that Capt. Steven Arthur said is "still under investigation." Arthur said that although Banks called the boy "his son" during the investigation Tuesday night, authorities do not believe Banks is the boy's biological father.
The boy was able to exit the vehicle a few seconds after Taylor did, and, at that point, Banks left the scene in the vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Office. While Taylor was still in the roadway, and before her son could get to her, a red Saturn sedan struck and killed Taylor, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the sedan, whose name has not been released, reported the accident around 8:40 p.m. and was not in custody Wednesday, according to Arthur. Taylor's death remains under investigation, Arthur said, but is being regarded as a result of the dispute between her and Banks.
"The indications are that the driver in the second vehicle was just coming up the street, she was in the roadway and he did not see her in time. The actions with the domestic dispute is what caused her death," he said.
By the time rescue personnel arrived and it was determined that Taylor had succumbed to her injuries, Banks had walked back to the scene of the accident and was detained by members of the Spanish Fort Police Department, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Banks was given a preliminary alcohol consumption test, which indicated his alcohol level was at a .19, more than double the state's legal limit of 0.08, according to the Sheriff's Office. After blood samples were taken from Banks at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, he was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, Arthur said. Banks remained in jail late Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bail, records showed.
According to Arthur, Taylor's son is now staying with his maternal grandparents, who also live in Spanish Fort. The Sheriff's Office said additional charges are pending.
