Jerry and Julie Littlefield are new members of the Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240 and Auxillary 240, and have volunteered to revitalize the post's Nursing Home Veterans Visitation Program.

They recently began their service to vets at Mulberry Manor where Post Adjutant Roger Easter introduced them to program director C.J. Prater. Following that they visited Mulberry veterans including Post 240 member David Peaton.

Next they visited Senior Care where they met with activities director Michelle Scheintz who provided them with a current roster of veterans in the facility and an update on scheduled veterans programs.

Following that, they went on to visit Oakwood Assisted Living and Stephenville Nursing and Rehab meeting with administrators, activity directors and veterans.

"They will schedule future visits to nursing homes in Dublin and Hico and have chosen November 10 − the day before Veterans Day − for their next round of visits. They'll have gift bags containing flags and other patriotic items for each veteran," Easter said.

Anyone who knows a veteran in a nursing or private home that could use some tender, loving care, call Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240 at 254-965-0806 or 254-965-6913.

"And I'd just like to say, thank you, Jerry and Julie for never leaving a veteran behind," he said.
