The extent of a 21-year-old woman's injuries following her horrific carjacking in west Melbourne have been revealed.

Real estate agent Yen Nguyen suffered two broken and fractured front teeth, grazes to her head, hands, face and hip, and significant bruising following an attack which saw a man carjack her Audi and drag her along the road behind it.

In a Facebook post she detailed her ordeal, and wrote: 'I'm very thankful for my life that I still have.'

The 21-year-old had stepped out of her car on Wickford Road in Tarneit, West Melbourne at about 10.30pm on Friday when a man jumped into the drivers seat.

As the man sped off in her car, Ms Nguyen was still attached to the vehicle and says she was dragged about '5-10 metres along the road at high speed'.

Police and paramedics attended the scene, and took the young woman to hospital, where she spent the next day.

'I was blessed that nothing was broken and the situation could've been a lot worse - I'm slowly recovering,' she wrote in a Facebook post.

'But these situations make you realise the last thing you have at the end of the day is family and health.

No money, no materialistic thing will make a difference when you're in the sort of pain. I'm so grateful for my family and everyone who was there that long night in hospital waiting.'

'It's quite scary to think people are going to do this just to get a car,' Victoria Police Detective Senior Constable Steven Robinson told the Herald Sun following the incident.

'The victim is very lucky to still have her life.'

A spokesperson for Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia a 38-year-old man has been charged with the theft of a motor vehicle, but officers are still looking for another man.

Ms Nguyen described him in her Facebook post as 'Aussie, skinny, tall, with ashy hair', and said he looked to be in his late 20s to mid-30s.
