WOOD VILLAGE, Ore. (KOIN) — A casino may be coming to a 33-acre piece of land in Wood Village.

The cite is just 2 miles from the site where the Multnomah Greyhound Park is being demolished, land which has also been proposed as a casino location.

The R&S Strategy Group LLC has a land deal with the owner of Gresham Transfer, north of I-84 off Exit 16, announced Matt Rossman and Bruce Studer on Friday.

This is the same group that has tired unsuccessfully to use the Greyhound Park land for a casino. The Grand Ronde tribe now owns that land, and may look to build a casino themselves.

The City of Wood Village verified the spot for a conditional permit, such as a casino, at that spot, Rossman and Studer said in a release.

Oregon voters would have to approve any plans for a casino. If they do, it would be the first taxpaying and non-smoking casino in Oregon. One of the developers says he’s confident it will pan out, but the earliest it can get on the ballot is 2018.

In 2012 voters shot down a constitutional amendment that would allow someone other than a tribe to own a casino.
