CHERYL TWEEDY vowed to quit music if her comeback failed to dent the top 80 – and on the latest showing her days in pop could be numbered.
After her single Love Made Me Do It limped in at No19 last week, I can reveal it has nosedived to No48 in official chart figures — prompting fears she might have to eat her words.
In a further blow, bosses at Radio 1 yesterday announced their playlist for this week and Cheryl failed to even make the C list, which features the station’s least-prioritised songs.
It means 41 other current tracks could be more likely to be played by the station’s DJs than Cheryl’s.
That will be seen as a major snub after she co-hosted Nick Grimshaw’s show on the network last week.
Industry insiders say the much-hyped record has shifted just 5,000 copies despite a high-profile performance on Sunday’s X Factor.
Streaming figures paint an even bleaker picture, showing she had slipped down to No110 in the daily Spotify charts just two days after the TV appearance.
The record has been played 460,000 times this week, while current chart topper Thank U, Next, by Ariana Grande has 6.3million plays.
Fellow Brits Little Mix are riding high at No2 with Woman Like Me, having been streamed 2.3million times — while every track in the top 20 boasts at least 1.3million.
A source tells me: “It’s dropping down the rankings fast this week despite it being her big comeback. It could easily end up falling further by the time the final charts are unveiled on Friday.”
The pop singer claimed she would quit music if her comeback song failed to dent the top 80Yesterday Cheryl lashed out at reports about the negative reaction to her telly performance, including claims she had spent hours analysing the recording since Sunday night.
In a statement posted on Twitter she admitted her music “is never going to be for everyone”.
She signed off: “I did watch my performance back and I loved it!”
I’ve always been a huge fan of Cheryl’s — but unfortunately the figures don’t lie.

It follows The Sun reporting she had split from her fiancé John Noble, who was caught grinding on a mystery woman at a Dubai club.
Vicky will present the bonkers cult Japanese gameshow with Roman Kemp for one episode on December 13.
Other guest co-hosts joining Roman on the show, which launches tomorrow at 8pm, include Chris Hughes, Georgia Toffolo, Vick Hope and Martin Kemp.
A source said: “Vicky’s in need of a good giggle and starring on Takeshi’s Castle is going to provide that.”
