4 Hurt In North Austin Bus-Car Collision

Incident along East 53rd Street at Duval just after 3 p.m. leads to hospitalization of four adult patients and street closures.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — A Capital Metro bus collided with a vehicle on Monday, sending four people to the hospital.

The incident along East 53rd Street at Duval Street just after 3 p.m., according to Austin-Travis County EMS medics. Four adult patients were transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, medics said via Twitter.

According to the Austin Fire Department, the driver of a pickup truck involved in the collision, the bus driver and two passengers on the bus were injured. Five other bus passengers declined treatment. The impact of the crash caused the bus to strike a nearby house that, while unoccupied at the time, resulted in displacement of its occupants after the utilities were cut off, fire officials said.

Traffic was delayed in the area for an extended period of time to accommodate a police investigation and road cleanup. Duval was shut down, according to police, and a portion of 53rd Street also was closed to traffic.
