The "Rally in the Alley" to gather school supplies for a five-county area supported by The River Region United Way has been set for Aug. 12.

The event, which kicks off the 2010 United Way Campaign, is sponsored by The River Region United Way and Emerge Montgomery. It will start at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. The Public Relations Council of Alabama's Montgomery chapter will be collecting the school supplies for children from Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes and Macon Counties.

Admission is free, and those who donate will receive a T-shirt while supplies last.

This year's event will be presented by BB&T with other sponsors including Riverfront Facilities,  Dreamland, AlleyBar, 129 Coosa, Helms-Roark, and other Alley business owners as soon as they are confirmed.

Non-profit agencies will be on hand – as they were last year – providing information about their services as well as asking for volunteer sign up.  Music for the evening will be provided by "Moving Parts."
