Barbara Smith
Barbara Anne Barnett Smith, 86, formerly of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, November 3, 2016.
Barbara was born in Fairfield, Al. She graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Birmingham Southern College on scholarship where she studied voice and piano and sang with the Hugh Thomas Chorus and First Methodist Church Choir in Birmingham.
Barbara was active as a member at St. Thaddaeus’ Episcopal Church in Chattanooga, where she had served as altar guild chairman, vestry member and choir member. She had also served as diocesan altar guild chairman for the diocese of Tennessee.
She was employed over 30 years in the insurance business working for New England Life and Cooper & Associates.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Polk Smith, the former owner of Court Pharmacy in Chattanooga; and brother, Davis Boyd Barnett.
Survivors are her daughter, Ms. Sherman Anne Dailey of Huntsville, granddaughter, Mrs. Meredith Anne Pettey also of Huntsville, grandson, Erin Thomas Dailey and newly-born great-granddaughter, Ayah Dailey of Great Britain, and nephew Ronald Briggs Smith of Roswell.
Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, at St. Thaddaeus’ Episcopal Church, 4300 Locksley Lane, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday at the church with The Reverend David Hackett officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Pettey, Gary Miller, Jimmy Richard, Ronald Smith, Bill Wigham.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
