DIXIE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A Steinhatchee man was seriously injured in a crash in Dixie County on Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The crash happened at 12:52 p.m. on US-19, just north of SW 10 Street.

According to FHP, Herbert Holden Jr., 49, of Steinhatchee, was driving southbound on US-19 in a Toyota Tacoma in the inside lane. A driver in a Volkswagen Jetta was also traveling southbound, in the outside lane.

For unknown reasons, Holden's vehicle veered slightly to the left, striking the back end of the Jetta.

The collision caused Holden's vehicle to travel off of the roadway and onto the shoulder, where it struck several trees. The Jetta spun off the roadway into the grass median and came to final rest.

Holden was taken to Shands Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver in the Jetta was not injured.

Troopers say Holden was cited for careless driving and failure to use a seatbelt.
