The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture reports the recalled products consisted of various weights of whole and parts of chicken and turkey.
AA Poultry Processing, LLC launched the recall on May 14, 2014 after FSIS in-plant personnel discovered the company was using trichloro-s-triazinetrione, a chemical used as a disinfectant, algicide and bactericide in swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs. The discovery of the chemical was made while FSIS personnel were doing a routine verification of procedures.
According to the FSIS, there have been no reported allergic reactions or illnesses due to consuming the recalled products. If anyone has a question about an injury or illness associated with this product, they are advised to call their health care provider.
The chicken and turkey products under recall were produced on various dates between May 4 and May 11, 2015. The products bear the establishment number “P-45525” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
AA Poultry Processing LLC receives live poultry for processing from outside poultry operations. The poultry is processed and the carcasses are returned to the original owners, packaged and with the USDA mark of inspection.
The news of the recall is adding to concerns over Wisconsin poultry supplies because of the bird flu epidemic. So far the number of affected birds in Wisconsin stands at 1.6 million.
