PITTSFORD, NY (WHAM) - Some parents are raising red flags after a young boy riding his bike was struck by a car in Pittsford.

Jennifer Moore is determined to make her neighborhood safer. "This has sort of fueled frustration over this issue of people speeding," she said.

She is frustrated and angry after she says her son, Julian, was riding his bike earlier this month along Kilbourn Road, when he was knocked off.

"Out of nowhere, as he says, he was struck by a white Range Rover," she described. She believes the vehicle was coming out of Oak Hill Country Club.

"I was really worried," said Moore's son, Julian. His mom said he has a few scratches and whiplash, but is expected to be okay.

Dooreen Sabetta, who lives nearby, ran out to see what happened when Julian was hit.

"I heard her son screaming, so that's what scared me," she said.

She echoes Moore's concerns about cars speeding in her neighborhood. "I just really wish people would have respect that people live here," she added.

The entrance to the country club runs through a residential neighborhood.

Pittsford Town Supervisor William Smith said he's worked with the club's management to address speeding concerns.

"I know for a fact that the country club periodically reminds its members to take it easy," Smith said.

Most recently, the town installed a speed bump along Kilbourn Road, hoping that will slow drivers down.

"That's not a permanent solution," said Moore.

After meeting with residents and Oak Hill representatives, Smith said the town is considering additional stop signs and possibly working to reduce the speed limit.

"Under state law, the lowest we are allowed to reduce the limit is to 25 miles per hour. It’s currently 30 miles per hour,” Smith added.

Meanwhile, Moore placed her son's banged up bike where the accident happened as a way of reminding drivers to take it slow.

"One thing that would really be great is some police presence on some very busy nights," she said.

In a statement responding to the story, Oak Hill Country Club's General Manager said, "We are aware of an incident that took place on September 7 outside our entrance on Kilbourn Road that involved a young boy who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. Thankfully, the boy was not seriously injured. However, this incident serves as a poignant reminder that all of us need to be extra vigilant while behind the wheel when arriving or departing the Club, or otherwise. We are pleased to see the Town of Pittsford has installed speed bumps on Kilbourn Road. We would like to take the opportunity to remind guests to take extra caution when entering and exiting the property, as we have already addressed this matter with our staff and members.
