KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Carl Junction’s Jenna Teeter finished in a tie for 12th place at the MSHSAA Class 2 state golf tournament, carding an 8-over-par 80 in Tuesday’s final round at Swope Memorial Golf Course.

The junior finished the final round two strokes better than Monday and logged a two-day score of 162, which tied Barbera King and Caroline Giocando, of Notre Dame de Sion, and Drew Nienhaus, of St. Joseph’s Academy.

Teeter, who started Tuesday in a three-way tie for 13th, made birdie on Nos. 8 and 11 and also had eight pars and seven bogeys. Her lone triple-bogey of the day was suffered on No. 18.

Defending state champion Megan Propeck, of Notre Dame de Sion, defended her title with a two-round card of 139, shooting 71 on Monday and then 68 on Tuesday.

St. Joseph’s Academy, which had two individuals place top-10, won the team title with a two-day card of 627.

Lily Allman, of McDonald County, made five pars and shot a 91 in the final day to register a two-day score of 177, good enough for a 40th-place finish.

Rylee Scott led Carthage with a 73rd-place finish while Naomi Rehrer took 81st and Hailey Bryant took 86th.

Scott and Bryant both made two pars in the final round while Rehrer made four.

CLASS 1

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Purdy’s Shelby Haskins finished in a tie for 52nd after shooting a 36-over-par 108 in the final round at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.

Identical to her front nine on Monday, Haskins made par on Nos. 2 and 9 to make the turn with a 52. Her back nine, however, didn’t result in a par as she finished five strokes higher than the day before.

Winning the individual title was Springfield Catholic’s Kayla Pfitzner (80-74-154), who shot the lowest round on Tuesday to edge her teammate, runner-up Reagan Zibliski, by two strokes.

John Burroughs won the team title with a two-day score of 701 while Springfield Catholic (703) came in second and MICDS (739) third.

COLGAN’S BEYKIRCH TAKES 11TH

EMPORIA, Kan. — Samantha Beykirch, of St. Mary’s Colgan, tied for 11th place at Monday’s Kansas Class 3-2-1A state golf tournament at Emporia Golf Course.

A senior, Beykirch shot a 92 and tied with Carly Kullot, of Syracuse.

Rylie Cook, of Stanton County, carded a 5-over-par 76 to earn medalist honors, and Syracuse captured the team championship with a 362.

Also for Colgan, Brenn Beykirch and Natalee Brake tied for 37th place with identical scores of 114.

Lindi Schmelzer, of Baxter Springs, carded a 118 and tied for 47th, while Frontenac’s MacKenzie Hensley tied for 55th with a 122 and teammate Kiera Threlfall was 58th with a 123.

Also for the Raiders, Autumn Bryant tied for 68th, Hanna Switz tied for 71st and Mallory Snow was 85th. Frontenac finished ninth in the team standings with a 490.

VOLLEYBALL

GOLDEN CITY 2, TJ 1

Golden City bested Thomas Jefferson in a three-set conference tilt inside Thomas Jefferson’s gymnasium.

The Cavaliers (4-15-1, 0-6 Ozark 7) dropped the first set 25-18 before bouncing back with a 25-18 win to force a third game. But the Eagles (13-12-1, 4-3) took the final set 25-19 to snap a three-game losing streak.

Winni Hiebert recorded seven kills to lead the Thomas Jefferson attack. Acelynn Tate tallied 19 assists, Maddie Goodman registered 34 digs and Kayley Ball had five aces for the Cavaliers, who return home Thursday to host Pierce City.

TIGERS TOP CARDS

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Carthage earned a 2-0 (25-23, 25-17) victory over Webb City in Central Ozark Conference action inside the Cardinal Dome.

“Webb City played tough, and we got the breaks at the right moments,” Carthage coach Tony Allmoslecher said. “It was a good match.”

Alexa Boyle recorded nine kills for the Tigers (26-6), while Ava Petticrew added eight and Paige Schrader chipped in six kills. Carthage’s Gracie Fagg dished out 26 assists, while Jillian Brunnert had 13 digs.

Both teams finish the regular season with nonconference matches on Thursday, as Carthage hosts Springfield Central and Webb City (20-10-3) hosts Springdale Har-Ber.

SOCCER

NIXA 5, JOPLIN 0

NIXA, Mo. — After a scoreless first half, Nixa poured in five goals during a 21-minute span to defeat Joplin in Central Ozark Conference soccer action.

Joplin (5-15, 0-7 COC) kept Nixa (13-6, 7-1) off the scoreboard until Andreas Luiga scored in the 41st minute. Hunter Daniels followed with a goal two minutes later before Luiga scored off an assist from Daniels in the 50th minute. Ethan Pellegren scored in the 54th minute before a Joplin own goal capped the scoring in the 62nd minute.

Joplin goalkeeper Juan Cornelio tallied six assists, while Nixa’s Nick Reid registered four of his own. Nixa outshot Joplin 16-5.

Joplin travels to Carthage (11-6-2) Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. contest.

CHC 5, THOMAS JEFFERSON 1

College Heights Christian broke a 1-1 tie with four unanswered goals to top Thomas Jefferson on the Cavaliers’ home turf.

Nathan Taylor put the Cougars on the board first, taking an assist from Caleb Wicklund and netting a goal in the 13th minute.

TJ’s Drew Goodhope tied the game seven minutes later off of an assist by Luke Ralston.

The Cougars’ game-winning surge included goals in the 25th, 38th, 70th and 75th minute. Wicklung, Hagen Beck and Tucker Lang netted the final three.

College Heights (6-9) hosts McDonald County today. Thomas Jefferson (5-12) is home against Greenwood on Thursday.

GRIZZLIES FINISH SIXTH AT STATE

TOPEKA, Kan. — Labette County’s duo of Lexi Baughman and Paige Burleigh finished sixth in the doubles bracket at the Kansas Class 4A state tennis tournament on Monday at Kossover Tennis Center.

Playing for fifth place, the Grizzlies suffered a 6-2 loss to Wichita Collegiate’s Sallie Lair and Steph Gentile.

A pair of seniors, Baughman and Burleigh went 32-7 this season.

Collegiate won the team championship for a fourth straight season.
