FAST FACTS -- You have the right to vote if you are still in line when the polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday.-- If you make a mistake you can get a new ballot as long as you haven’t already cast your ballot.-- Registered voters can still vote even if their name isn’t listed at the polling place.-- You can reach out to the country registrar to check if your vote-by-mail ballot was received. “Well, I think people want to participate and they are excited about the opportunity to participate,” said Ryan Ronco with Placer County Registrar of Voters. “They may not be excited about individual candidates, but then they remember that there are local races that are just as important, and maybe even more important in their daily lives.” “We have really been trying to get out in front of it and telling folks to start studying ahead of time. So as much as possible, do your research and homework before you walk into the ballot box,” said Jesse Salinas with the Yolo County Registrar of Voters. “We have been encouraging folks to fill out their sample ballot beforehand, and to be prepared that there may be some lines out there.” The early ballots have allowed for registrars to get a head start on verifying signatures, scanning and processing ballots. “It will just be scanning the ballots for processing purposes, but they will not be counting any of the votes until after 8 p.m. on Election Night,” Salinas said. Salinas adds that Yolo County is unique in that it’s trying a new approach to streamline the voting process. For the first time locations across Davis and West Sacramento, there will have a midday ballot pickup escorted by sheriff’s deputies, allowing the registrar to begin processing early. Yolo, San Bernardino, Santa Clara, Monterrey, Alameda and Riverside are the only counties trying a midday ballot pickup. Yolo County is also inviting students under 18 years old to an Election Night Bash for a tour of the registrar so they can get a behind-the-scenes look at the voting process.
