Gift pick No. 43: Lizbeth Navarro ceramic animal cups

Share

We’re entering the home stretch of our Handmade Holidays gift guide, and Lizbeth Navarro is making our job a little easier. When we asked about her gift-able pottery, she basically told her own story:

“My father is from Peru, and I was born and raised in Guanajuato, Mexico, so I draw most of my inspiration from my multicultural heritage, always surrounded by beautiful handmade objects,” she wrote.

Working at the Xiem Clay Center in Pasadena, she throws each of her cups by hand and etches each with illustrations of her favorite animals, including llamas, foxes, whales, bunnies.

“The sgraffito cups are fired with a layer of clear glaze,” she said, adding that the sgraffito method allows each work to be “full of individual quirks and personality.”

Navarro just updated her shop at lizbethnavarro.com to include 40 assorted animal cups ($38 to $45 each) that are ready to ship, as well as small dessert bowls, ring dishes and other pieces.
