This weekend’s Florida Prospects Thanksgiving Invitational again brings some of the state’s best girls basketball teams to Orlando for two big days of holiday weekend play at Dr. Phillips High School.
The field includes three-time defending Class 8A state champion Winter Haven, which finished 32-2 last season, and 4A Miami Country Day (19-10), which has won five consecutive state titles.
Area powers include Lake Highland Prep (25-7), which was last season’s 5A state runner-up, and 9A semifinalist Oak Ridge (18-13); along with Colonial (24-6), West Orange (24-5) and Wekiva (23-5).
The mix also includes three independent teams that play outside the FHSAA playoff system: Montverde Academy, West Oaks Academy and Potter’s House of Jacksonville, which won nine of the past 10 Sunshine Independent Athletic Association tournaments.
