TOBIN suffered a shattered nose and two broken cheekbones when a sex beast battered him in jail, the Record can reveal.

And yesterday, Vicky's dad Michael said: "He deserved it and it will happen again. He got his just deserts."

Tobin, 61, was attacked by lifer William Bermingham, 21, in his cell in Saughton jail's protection on Wednesday evening.

Bermingham told cons he beat up Tobin because he was "sick of him swaggering about like a wee ticket".

A jail source said the attack took place after Bermingham went into Tobin's cell. Bermingham later claimed he acted in self-defence.

Sources said the incident was captured on CCTV.

An insider said: "The beating was pretty bloody. Wardens came out of Tobin's cell carrying blood-soaked towels and the prison nurses went in with boxes of equipment.

"Tobin was taken to hospital and they closed off his cell, then police forensics in white suits moved in. They put a big 'crime scene - do not enter' notice on the door."

Paramedics had to carry Tobin to an ambulance. He was too badly hurt to appear in court yesterday in connection with Vicky's death and was still being monitored at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary last night.

Bermingham is serving life for trying to take a female prison officer hostage at knifepoint. He was originally caged for attempting to rape a 17-year-old girl.

He was charged yesterday in connection with the attack on Tobin.

Michael was waiting at court for Tobin and was disappointed when he didn't arrive. He said: "Where Tobin is, I will be there. I hope he lives until he is 90 and I will be with him every step of the way."
