TV tonight: 'Sex&Drugs,' 'Under the Dome'
Power & Ice
History, 9 ET/PT
In case you haven't noticed, the faux-reality genre (non-contest division) is fascinated by Alaska. And as you no doubt noticed years ago, History is fascinated by pretty much anything that gets it out of doing programming that might be mistaken for "history." (Remember when services like History, A&E and Bravo were going to replace PBS?) Combine those two preferences, and you get this series that follows three sets of employees of competing Alaska electric-line companies as they battle to keep the power grid in place. If nothing else, the scenery is sure to be gorgeous.
Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll
FX, 10 ET/PT
Denis Leary's funny exploration of the price of not having fame continues with the introduction of Johnny's mother (played by the great Kelly Bishop). Turns out her own show-business career — and Johnny's childhood — were ruined by Julie Andrews and Mary Poppins, which is just a great comedy idea on the face of it.
Under the Dome
CBS, 10 ET/PT
Say this for Under the Dome. It may have gone crazy this season, but it's all-in on its own insanity. So if you hate half measures, tune in as "The Resistance" — the new name for the citizens united against Christine and her sex-goo army — ponders their alliance with the evil Aktaion Energy, led by Eriq La Salle, a long way from ER.
