14 DAY TRIAL // Count on Mariah Carey to be able to pull off such a diva move: over the weekend, the one who calls herself the Elusive Chanteuse addressed ongoing rumors that she couldn’t hit the high notes anymore with a video she posted on Facebook, apparently having nothing in common with said reports.
Mariah has been making a lot of headlines recently, what with her 6-year marriage to Nick Cannon coming to an end amid endless speculation on whether he cheated on her, and with a new tour now underway.
When she kicked it off in Tokyo, Japan, she experienced a series of technical issues that made her look as if she could barely sing the way she did before, which, in turn, led to backlash on Twitter and urges for her to stick to just being a diva and not sing anymore.
Tell ‘em, Mariah!
However, all this talk started from footage shot by viewers in the audience at the aforementioned show, operating a smartphone. They did not have the necessary equipment to shoot the performance and they were clearly not experts in doing so.
Neither were the people who watched the videos and then decided that Mariah was toast, if only for the reason that that which they did not hear in them (i.e. Mariah hitting the high notes) could have been someone else’s fault, not her own.
In other words, there’s a chance she could be singing the notes but they weren’t heard in the venue because of her mic or other issues with the audio equipment.
At least that’s what Mariah seems to be suggesting with her most recent post on Facebook, which is actually a video of her in her hotel room in Singapore, captioned “Cleaning and warming up my voice #TheElusiveChanteuseShow.”
In the video, she’s shown strolling around in the room, singing. She doesn’t actually do any cleaning, except for walking around with a vase (?) in her hand and placing it down later, and picking up a “dirty” tank top and wondering into the camera who could be leaving them lying around.
But the point of the video is obvious: all you haters saying online that she can’t sing anymore, back down because you’re wrong. She can – and does!
Divorce from Nick is turning into a real pain in the neck
If only Mariah could solve her other big problem just as easily. She may have silenced her critics for good, but there’s nothing she can or will do to make her divorce from Nick Cannon be smoother, less painful.
Just today, word got out in the press that they were fighting bitterly over the custody of their 8 dogs, which was also the reason why neither had filed the divorce papers yet.
Presumably, they have reached an understanding regarding every other aspect, including money and custody of the kids, but they couldn’t come to see eye to eye on the problem of who gets to keep the pooches. Knowing how fond Mariah is of her dogs, she’s probably determined to fight him out on this one.
