ROWLAND — The state school district that took over a Robeson County elementary school is seeking teachers and a principal to work there next year.

The Innovative School District wants to hire "qualified and enthusiastic educators" for Southside Ashpole Elementary School in Rowland, according to a statement released by the district Thursday. The district is holding a job fair today at the Rowland Town Hall on Main Street from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Ideal candidates will be passionate about what they do and driven to maximize student achievement and success,” the statement said.

Southside Ashpole is the first school in the state to be taken over by the newly created statewide district, formed in 2016 with ability to control as many as five low performing schools.

The school has 24 openings, including a principal, an instructional coach, a guidance counselor and an office manager, according to the district’s statement. Teachers for kindergarten through fifth grade, physical education, music and art, and teaching assistants also are needed, it said.
