RSS president Mohan Bhagwat today inaugurated Krishna temple on the Mall here during his one-day visit to the town.
He arrived from Chandigarh by road in the morning and was welcomed by members of the Sri Krishna Vrindavan Trust who had organised the function. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also greeted the RSS chief.
The Trust welcomed Bhagwat in typical Himachali tradition by gifting him a traditional Himachali cap, while the CM was welcomed in Maharashtrian style with a cap.
Bhagwat said: “Our holy scripture Bhagavad Geeta preaches us to work with dedication for whatever duty has been assigned to us without worrying about the results.”
He hoped that the new temple would emerge as a place not only for worship but also a place to ponder over the welfare of society.
The CM said religion was the binding force that united all sections of society. “It is important that in the modern era of cut-throat competition, religion and culture are upheld. Only those societies progress that give due respect to their tradition and culture,” he added.
Rajiv Kohli, president, Sri Krishna Vrindavan Trust; state BJP chief Satpal Satti; and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Rajiv Saizal were also present.
