STARTING FIVE
• The Gophers welcome the University of Utah for the first game of a home-and-home series on Monday night. The two teams will meet again next season at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. It's the first of two Pac-12 opponents for Minnesota this season, with a neutral-site date against Washington next Wednesday in Vancouver.
• With their 104-76 win over Omaha last week, the Gophers are now 95-23 in season openers since the program's inception in 1896. The Gophers have now won 21 of their past 22 season openers including four straight.
• Senior forward Jordan Murphy has earned some impressive accolades leading into the start of the season. The San Antonio, Texas native was a Preseason All-Big Ten Team selection as well as named to the Naismith Trophy (top college basketball player) and Karl Malone Award watch list for the top power forward in the country.
• Minnesota welcomes four newcomers to the roster on the court this season in freshmen Gabe Kalscheur, Jarvis Omersa and Daniel Oturu along with graduate transfer Brock Stull. Additionally, redshirt senior Matz Stockman will make his debut in Maroon & Gold after sitting out last year following his transfer from Louisville. That group joins seven returning players, including senior co-captains Murphy and Dupree McBrayer. Transfer guards Payton Willis (Vanderbilt) and Marcus Carr (Pittsburgh) will sit out the season, per NCAA rules.
• The Gophers are playing just two home games at Williams Arena in the month of November. That's the fewest November home games since 2007, when the Gophers faced Army and Central Michigan at the Barn in the 11th month of the year.

SCOUTING THE UTES
• Utah won its season opener, a 75-61 decision over the Maine Black Bears on Thursday night in Salt Lake City. Three Utes scored in double-figures, led by 18 points from Sedrick Barefield. Novak Topolovic was one point shy of a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
• Utah was picked to finish eighth in the Pac-12 preseason media poll after going 23-12 last year and advancing to the finals of the NIT in New York City.

GOPHERS VS. THE PAC-12
• The Gophers have amassed a record of 41-27 (.603) against the current membership of the Pacific-12 Conference. MInnesota has faced every Pac-12 school at least once.
• Series records are as follows: Arizona (3-0), Arizona State (4-1), Cal (2-2), Colorado (2-0), Oregon (5-3), Oregon State (6-1), USC (4-2), Stanford (5-1), UCLA (1-5), Utah (1-2), Washington (7-9), Washington State (1-1).
• Ironically, while the Gophers have faced every Pac-12 school, this is the first matchup for Richard Pitino as a head coach facing a Pac-12 opponent. He has had experience coaching against the four other members of the "Power 5".
• Monday marks the first time Minnesota has faced a Pac-12 opponent since the 2012-13 season, when they faced Stanford and USC in the regular season and UCLA in the NCAA Tournament.

UP NEXT
• Minnesota begins a six-game stretch of games away from the Barn as it crosses the border to Vancouver, B.C., to take part in the inaugural Vancouver Showcase.
• The Gophers will begin play on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. CT against Texas A&M, with ESPN2 and KFAN carrying the game live.
• After the game with the Aggies, the Gophers will also face Santa Clara and Washington under the sails of the Vancouver Convention Center.
