'OPERATION GGO'

Ghislaine Maxwell’s family launch operation to get her out of jail as ‘small cell & lack of vegan food breaches rights’

GHISLAINE Maxwell's family have launched an operation to get the heiress out of prison over claims her small cell and lack of vegan food violates her human rights, it has been reported.

The operation, dubbed 'Operation GGO', is the effort to get Maxwell of the New York prison where she is currently on remand for child sex trafficking charges linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The former socialite has been a victim of "cruel" and "vindictive" treatment by the US authorities, The Daily Telegraph has reported.

Brian Basham, a public relations veteran and close friend of the family, has claimed Maxwell has lost 25lbs while in jail and when she complained, the prison authorities removed the scales to stop her from weighing herself.

Maxwell, a vegan, was not being fed a proper diet and went 20 hours without food recently, he alleged.

Mr Basham has also complained she was forced to wear clothes made of paper and that she isn't allowed to wear a bra over fears she is a suicide risk.

He claims prison guards have stopped talking to her and she is isolation in a 9-foot by 7-foot cell.

Mr Basham has also alleged letters that Maxwell's family have written to her have not reached her.

Epstein killed himself while awaiting trial in a New York jail last year.

Mr Basham has now offered his services to her family for free to see she gets bail before her trial is due to take place next summer.

Maxwell faces six counts relating to child sex trafficking and procurement charges and perjury.

The 58-year-old, who was arrested in July, faces a year in jail before trial after she was seen as a flight right.

Maxwell was denied bail despite her lawyers offering a $5 million bond.

More than 400 pages of transcript of a deposition given in 2016 were made public this week - with Maxwell repeatedly denying any wrongdoing.

Mr Basham said he volunteered to help the family "because I thought that the dog and pony show put on by the Department of Justice and the FBI had attempted to whip what I think of as a lynch mob into further frenzy".

He claims it is outrageous Maxwell was denied bail when now-convicted sex offenders Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cobsy were.

He told the paper: "Both Weinstein and Cosby were given bail and they were men who were a danger to women. That can’t be said of Ghislaine at all."

Mr Basham also insists Maxwell is not a flight risk as she has a French passport and could've fled when Epstein was arrested, but she didn't

He added: "It is vindictive and cruel."

Mr Basham continued: "I am told that none of the members of the family have been able to visit or talk to her directly.”

It comes after The Sun reported Maxwell was launching a fresh bid for freedom after moaning she is in solitary confinement 23 hours a day.

The Brit and her legal team are set to file a bail application “in weeks”.
