Outdoor pizzeria? Yes, please.
Contributor

Pizza is by far one of the most delicious foods out there. Seriously, ask five people what their favourite food is and I bet at least one person will say pizza. From the yummy melted cheese to the tasteful tomato sauce, pizza is truly a perfect creation. If you’re someone that loves all kinds of pizza then you need to try this hidden spot in Ottawa’s ByWard Market. With the amazing summer weather upon us there’s no better way to spend your day than exploring new places in the city.

Ottawa is home to some yummy pizza spots, but this one is by far one of the cutest. It is tucked away in the ByWard Market, in fact, just walking down the street it can be pretty easy to miss it. The best part is that this pizzeria has the best outdoor patio. If you’re looking for a new bar to eat, drink, and chat at, you have 100% just found it.

Il Vicolo is hidden away in Ottawa’s ByWard Market and it is so cute. The pizza place is relatively new, it opened up late last year and has been serving exceptional pizza to customers since. From the hanging flowers to the lights that turn on at night, you will instantly fall in love with this restaurant. Il Vicolo serves up a variety of wood-oven pizzas. If you have never tried out a wood-oven pizza, you are seriously missing out. Their pizzas are all handmade with care in the traditional Italian way. All of the ingredients that they use are locally sourced, completely fresh, and seasonal.

Not only does this hidden gem serve up amazing pizzas, they also serve up a variety of unique cocktails perfect for a night out. If you are someone that loves enjoying drinks on a hot summers day, you will absolutely love this spot. One of the cocktails that they serve is the Pineapple Express which has Summer Colada Ciroc, Melon Liquor, pineapple juice, soda, and is garnished with a slice of fresh pineapple. Another famous cocktail at Il Vicolo is their Golden Gate which comes with freshly squeezed blood orange juice, bitters, and Canadian Whiskey.

Their yummy pizzas are made in many different ways. Whether you’re someone that loves a classic margherita or someone who craves anything that puts a twist on the classic, this spot in Ottawa has something for you. Some of the pizza styles include:

  • Lacarne: Tomato Sauce, Pepperoni, Sausage, Smoked Bacon, Onions and Mozzarella
  • Ligurian: Pesto Sauce topped with Chicken Breast, Onions, Red Peppers, Kalamata Olives, Fresh Chives, Feta and Mozzarella with aside of Tzatziki Sauce
  • Veloce: Crushed Tomato Sauce with Hot Sausage, Spicy Pepper Rings, Mozzarella di Bufala and Goat Cheese drizzled with Chili Olive Oil
  • Holyshiitake: Creamy Garlic base topped with Shiitake, Crimini and Portobello Mushrooms, Mozzarella drizzled with White Truffle Oil and Garnished with Fresh Chives and Shaved Parmigiano

After you indulge in your delicious pizza, you have to treat yourself to one of their desserts. The crostatas are a house specialty and they come in a couple of different flavours. Some include apple, Nutella and banana, and raspberry and ricotta. The crostatas are made with sweet dough baked in their oven and they are served with locally made ice cream. They also serve up a rich layered chocolate cake called the torta al cioccolato (yum).

Pizza prices range depending on the style that you choose. The more toppings, the pricier it gets. But for a simple margherita it only costs $14. They also have gluten free dough you can substitute as your pizza base if needed. This hidden gem is located at 118 Clarence Street, as you walk down Clarence it could be pretty easy to miss so be sure to keep an eye out.
