Indy 500: Ryan Hunter-Reay tops seventh practice session

Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the seventh practice session for the 102nd running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the seventh practice session for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 at the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.
Hunter-Reay led a 1-2-3 Honda sweep and a 1-2-3 Andretti Autosport sweep of the practice session, which featured only 24 of the 33 IndyCar drivers who qualified for the Indy 500, in his #28 Honda after recording a lap at 230.507 miles per hour (39.0443 seconds). Marco Andretti finished in second place in his #98 Honda and Alexander Rossi finished in third in his #27 Honda.
The fastest Chevrolet driver of the session was Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud. Pagenaud finished the session in fourth place in his #22 Chevrolet, and his fastest lap of the session was the fastest overall lap of the session without a tow at 229.408 miles per hour (39.2312 seconds).

The fastest six drivers without a tow in the session were all Chevrolet drivers, and the top four were Team Penske’s four drivers. Behind Pagenaud were his teammates Helio Castroneves in his #3 Chevrolet, Josef Newgarden in his #1 Chevrolet and Will Power in his #12 Chevrolet in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Matheus Leist and Tony Kanaan rounded out the top six Chevrolet sweep of the no tow speed chart in fifth and sixth place in their #4 Chevrolet and #14 Chevrolet, respectively.
The fastest Honda driver of the session without a tow was Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens, who finished in seventh place in his #6 Honda.
