One person dies after fire in Fort Madison

UPDATE 4/2:

Officials say one person has died following a fire in Fort Madison on Friday.

Officials say 32-year-old Hamilton Parker, of Fort Madison, was found in the home while crews responded to the fire. Parker was taken to the hospital and then to the University of Iowa Hospitals where he succumbed to his injuries.

The fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's office and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine his cause of death.

One person has been taken to the hospital after an early morning fire in Fort Madison.

The Fort Madison Fire Chief, Joey Herren, said in a press release officials were called to 1121 Ave. East for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, smoke was showing and the department made entry into the home.

After inside, officials did find a person and that person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Officials have not released if the person found is a man or woman.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
