The Fairview Municipal Planning Commission approved a site plan for the city’s second Dollar General store on Tuesday night.

The store will be located at 1391 Highway 96 North, owned by Boulevard Investment Group, LLC.

The proposed 9,100-square-foot retail store will be constructed on 2.36 acres, zoned Commercial General and located just east of Country Trucks, a semi-truck sales company.

Currently, Dollar General has one other Fairview store at 2391 Fairview Boulevard, which opened in October 1995. There are currently five Dollar General locations in Williamson County, 11 in Dickson County and five in Hickman County.

With its headquarters in Goodlettsville, Dollar General stores are corporately-owned, and have become one of the nation’s fastest growing discount retailers, offering name-brand and private brand merchandise including health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, clothing and seasonal items.

Less than 100 miles from Fairview, J.L. Turner and Cal Turner Sr. opened J.L. Turner and Son Wholesale in Scottsville, Kentucky in 1939. In 1955, Turner's Department store in Springfield, Kentucky was converted into the first Dollar General store.

In July, Dollar General opened its 15,000th store spreading across 44 states with a focus on serving rural America’s discount shoppers. According to the Dollar General website, approximately 70% of their stores serve communities with populations of less than 20,000.
